The 1733 slave insurrection on St. John (Danish: Slaveoprøret på Sankt Jan) or the Slave Uprising of 1733, was a slave insurrection started on Sankt Jan in the Danish West Indies (now St. John, United States Virgin Islands) on November 23, 1733, when 150 African slaves from Akwamu, in present-day Ghana, revolted against the owners and managers of the island's plantations.

The Slob Historic District includes the Great House and five slave cottages from the late 1700s and two from the early 1800s in the slave village. The slave village was the birthplace of Cyril King, the island of St. Croix's first native-born governor. The district also includes the stables and an 1840s factory building.
The Colonial Law of 1863 divided the islands into two municipalities: St. Croix, and St. Thomas–St. John. [2] Each municipality was served by a Colonial Council. [2] After the United States had purchased the islands, the U.S. Congress passed the Organic Act of 1936, under which the two Colonial Councils became Municipal Councils. [2]

Frederik Christian Hals von Moth (1694 – 12 August 1746) was a Danish merchant, nobleman, colonial administrator and planter who served as Governor-General of St. Thomas and St. John in the Danish West Indies from April 1724 - May 1727 then again from 21 February 1736 - 13 April 1744.
