If you want to use the email app that comes with your Android device, just add your AOL Mail account through your device's settings. Though you should be able to set up the account automatically, you may need to set up the account manually with the POP or IMAP settings.

Select Mail Settings. On the general settings tab, in inbox setting click the radial button next to Use Unified Inbox Style. Click Save Settings at the bottom. You may need to sign out of the app and then sign back in to reset the app settings. This can be done by: Tap on the AOL icon in the upper right. Tap on Manage Accounts.
Be aware some sections will link to the client's help page, and they can't answer questions about AOL Mail settings, or your Verizon.net username or password.
