The clock tower was constructed in 1895 as a memorial to Ellen E. Ward (1826–1893), who was a prominent and active Roslyn resident best known for donating the historic horse trough located within the village. [2] [4] The tower was commissioned by Ward's children. The Main Street Historic District is one of two such districts in the village of Roslyn, New York. It is, as its name suggests, located along Main Street between North Hempstead Turnpike ( NY 25A ) and East Broadway , incorporating Tower Street and portions of Glen Avenue and Paper Mill Road.
The Ellen E. Ward Memorial Clock Tower in Roslyn was designed by Lamb and Rich, and was completed in 1895. [18] [19] It was sold to the Village of Roslyn by the Town of North Hempstead for $1 for its centennial in 1995. [20] Also taking place in 1995 was the opening of the Village of Roslyn's current Village Hall on Old Northern Boulevard. [14]

The Roslyn Village Historic District encompasses the center of that village in the U.S. state of New York.It includes within its boundaries the earlier Main Street Historic District, although that is considered a separate district by the National Park Service, which added the Roslyn Village district to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
Cedarmere is located behind a high stone wall on a 7-acre (2.8 ha) parcel along Bryant Ave., Roslyn Harbor, with two small ponds and a landscape designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Its main house is a three-bay, 2 + 1 ⁄ 2-story main block with two wings: a two-story multi-bay structure to the east and a smaller, single-story section to the north.
