Scammers aren't really the problem on Armslist. Yeah, there are scammers. But Armslist is intended for local, face to face transactions. Kinda hard to get scammed face to face. My biggest complaint about Armslist is the flakes (someone who says, "I'll take it."
No point in Armslist or Vaguntrader anymore since the commies with a couple RPV faggots passed UBC's in Va. Pricing, even during salad days, was close to or at new. Only reason to do it then was no 4473 or if it was something old not made anymore. Armslist changed a year or so ago their search function and made it complete shit.
Armslist is meant to be used for local, face-to-face transactions only. Scamming is much more difficult with FTF transactions. The problem is people who use Armslist in a way it wasn't intended to be used - long distance transactions. They don't follow the Armslist rules, then cry and blame Armslist when they end up getting scammed.
Either way, this is an absolute end to Armslist. I searched my local AL that ALWAYS has 100's of listings and there was only 1 pistol, 1 rifle and 1 box of ammo. I then searched a bigger local market of AL close to me that usually has 1000's of listings and there were less than 20.
Armslist used to be great, but it lost a lot of traffic when it became a pay site. Not nearly as many people use it now, and it has become pretty lame. I too would like to find something that could replace Armslist for local, face to face transactions. But as lame as Armslist is, there just isn't anything that's any better.
I signed up and had an email verification from Armslist of my premium account being activated Here is how things have gone. The first problem is that I can't create a listing. I go through the procedure, hit activate. It doesn't appear on the site and it isn't on my active listings on my account. It just disappeared So I try to create another one.
An "Example" of Freeeeee Guns on ArmsList (1) An Example of "FREEEEEE" Guns on Armslist (2) Another example of FREEEEE Guns on Armslist (3) One of the things I hate about about that site. So we should all expect PROFESSIONAL Moderation and Scam Fighting if we have to PAY to Play...
If you want to sell a $300 shotgun, Armslist beats having to ship and incur Gunbroker fees. Buying on Armslist allows you to purchase face to face and avoid dealer fees. Selling an H&K sp89, Gunbroker probably finds you the right buyer. AR specific items sell well on the equipment exchange...
Armslist must be dead. Trying to offload a 9mm AR and I haven't even had a single email. I know its not the hottest item in the world, but in the past I've always had at least a bunch of tire kickers and people offering to trade their pocket lint for whatever I was selling. Every time I would bump a listing I would get more emails.
I get that they have to pay for things but I figured that was resolved when they started packing ads into the format. On the other hand, in today's anti-2nd amendment culture, I appreciate Armslist's dedication to fighting the good fight. I want them to be able to stay viable. Hopefully it does put a damper on the scammers.
