A moraine is any accumulation of unconsolidated debris (regolith and rock), sometimes referred to as glacial till, that occurs in both currently and formerly glaciated regions, and that has been previously carried along by a glacier or ice sheet.

Moraines. As a glacier moves along a valley, it picks up rock debris from the valley walls and floor, transporting it in, on, or under the ice. As this material reaches the lower parts of the glacier where ablation is dominant, it is concentrated along the glacier margins as more and more debris melts out of the ice.
