[3] Horizon Hobby products are sold in more than 50 countries. [4]
Founding. The Heath Company was founded as an aircraft company in 1911 [5] by Edward Bayard Heath with the purchase of Bates Aeroplane Co, soon renamed to E.B. Heath Aerial Vehicle Co. Starting in 1926 it sold a light aircraft, the Heath Parasol, in kit form. [6] Heath died during a 1931 test flight. [7]
The first aircraft kit was released in 1953, a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk I, [4] followed by the Spitfire Mk IX in 1958, in 1 ⁄ 72 scale, developed by James Hay Stevens. [5] This was a scaled-down copy of the Aurora 1 ⁄ 48 Supermarine Spitfire kit, although it is unknown if this kit was produced with authorization from Aurora. [ 6 ]
