Congregation Beth Israel (Hebrew: בית ישראל) is a Modern Orthodox synagogue located at 4004 West Esplanade Avenue, Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the United States. Founded in 1903 or 1904, [1] though tracing its roots back to 1857, it is the oldest Orthodox congregation in the New Orleans region.

The school's building was saved due to a request by Gen. W. T. Sherman, the school's former superintendent. After the end of the Civil War, in April 1865, the seminary was again reopened on October 2, 1865, with Col. David F. Boyd as superintendent. Following the war, General Sherman donated two cannons to the institution.
