Edakkad Battalion 06 is an Indian Malayalam-language action drama film directed by Swapnesh K. Nair, written by P.Balachandran, and produced by Shrikant Bhasi, Tomas Joseph Pattathanam and Jayant Mammen under the banner of Ruby Films.
Edakkad grama panchayat of Kannur in ancient times was referred to as Madhya-adavi (in Sanskrit Madhya means middle and Adavi means forest). Similarly Eda means middle and kadu means forest. Thus the Malayalam derivative "Edakkad" is an adaptation of its original Sanskrit name.
Edakkad was one of the 140 state legislative assembly constituencies in Kerala state in southern India, before the 2008 delimitation of constituencies. It was one of the 7 state legislative assembly constituencies included in the Kannur Lok Sabha constituency until the 2008 delimitation. [ 2 ]
There are nine development blocks comprising 71 grama panchayats. The development blocks are Kannur, Edakkad, Irikkur, Iritty, Kuthuparamba, Payyannur, Peravoor, Taliparamba and Thalassery. There is one municipal corporation and 9 municipalities in Kannur district.
Following the 1965 delimitation, Cannanore - I Constituency was renamed as Kannur while Cannanore - II was replaced by the newly formed Edakkad constituency. In the 2008 delimitation of constituencies, a major portion of the erstwhile Kannur Assembly Constituency was replaced in Azhikode constituency. Edakkad constituency became defunct in 2011.
The sex ratio was 1,178 higher than the state average of 1,084. In Kolachery, the population of children under 6 years was 13.2%. Kolachery had overall literacy of 93% higher than national average of 59% and lower than state average of 94%. [4] [5]
