Evan and Charity Holt were known to be among the early settlers in 1803. Joseph Vance had surveyed the township in 1807. In 1807 John Stilley, aged 15, had been here with his Uncle John Stilley who settled on land near Mt. Vernon. It was not until 1818 that John Stilley returned to claim his land.
