In the 1950s, Suffolk County Department of Public Works planned to transform the former branch into a four-lane highway called Suffolk County Road 91 (Manorville Branch Road), but this proposal was abandoned on June 24, 1986, [5] [8] and as with the Long Pond Greenbelt, this road bed is also now a hiking trail.
The route runs along the west side of two local airports (Lufker Airport and Spadaro Airport) where it also crosses the former right-of-way for the Manorville Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. At NY 27 (Sunrise Highway), CR 51 becomes a four-lane expressway and is one of the roads served by the incomplete exit 61.
Eastport-South Manor is a school district that serves parts of both Brookhaven and Southampton towns in eastern Suffolk County, New York. Commonly known as "ESM", the district serves the hamlets of Manorville and Eastport, as well as portions of the hamlets of Speonk and Mastic. The total enrollment for the 2015-2016 school year is 3,534 students.
It is named for the publisher's "Country Life Press" that was located across the tracks. [4] Country Life Press station has some former rights-of-way that led to the West Hempstead and the Oyster Bay Branches. [5] It also included the remnants of the Central Branch of the Long Island Rail Road that terminated near Nassau Coliseum.
