Yountville is located within Napa Valley, in the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.5 sq mi (4.0 km 2), all of it land. A 5.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in Yountville on September 3, 2000. [4]
Rancho Caymus was a 11,887-acre (48.10 km 2) Mexican land grant in present-day Napa County, California granted in 1836 by acting Governor Nicolás Gutiérrez to George C. Yount. [1] Caymus was the name of a subgroup of Mishewal-Wappo Indians.

[4] A 1906 law outlawed the sale and consumption of alcohol in the area around the Veterans Home of California Yountville, [5] and the building was bought in 1920 by John Lande who used it as a French steam laundry, [6] which is the origin of the restaurant's name.
