The former Pennsylvania Railroad depot in Newport, alongside PA 34. Newport was originally known as Reider's Ferry—later Reidersville—as it was the site of an early ferry on the Juniata River operated by Paul Jr., Daniel, and John Reider until 1851. The trio had also originally laid down 54 plots and several streets.

Newport appears prominently on a 1578 parish map of Pembrokeshire, [5] and is a former marcher borough. George Owen of Henllys, in 1603, described it as one of five Pembrokeshire boroughs overseen by a portreeve. [6] It retains some of the borough customs such as electing a mayor, who beats the bounds on horseback every August.
1721. Wightman was a carpenter-turned-minister who moved to Newport as early as 1694, purchased the land from Nathaniel Coddington and built this house around 1721.
