In 1998 Johnson Boat Works was sold and its assets were divided. Melges Boat Works took control of most scow molds, while Catalina Yachts bought the Johnson 18 molds as well as several un-finished Johnson 18 hulls and fittings. Very few Johnson 18's were produced after the sale and Catalina Yachts retains control of the class molds.
The developer of the modern bass boat is widely considered to be Skeeter Fishing Boats, a company now owned by Yamaha. In 1948 Holmes Thurmond designed and launched the first Skeeter boat. By no means was it the last "first" for Skeeter. In 1961, he built the first bass boat from fiberglass, a huge leap forward in performance and durability.
The boat has a draft of 2.25 ft (0.69 m) with the standard shoal draft keel, is normally fitted with a small outboard motor for docking and maneuvering and may be equipped with a series of jibs or genoas.
The Catalina 18, formerly known as the Capri 18, is a trailerable American sailboat that was designed by Frank Butler and Gerry Douglas and first built in 1985. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] The design was originally marketed as the Capri 18, but the name was changed by the manufacturer to Catalina 18 in 2000.
Bayliner offers five different models of bow rider boats: The Bowrider 160, 170, VR4, VR5 and VR6. Each model increases in length and engine power, from 16 ft and 100 hp to 22 ft and 250 hp. Boats in the VR line can be configured with inboard or outboard engines. [5]
The boat has a draft of 5.00 ft (1.52 m) with the centerboard extended and 1.83 ft (0.56 m) with it retracted, allowing operation in shallow water, beaching or ground transportation on a trailer. [1] [3] The boat is normally fitted with a small 4 to 6 hp (3 to 4 kW) well-mounted outboard motor for docking and maneuvering. [1] [3]
