Tirana [b] (/ t ɪ ˈ r ɑː n ə / ⓘ tih-RAH-nə, [11] [12] Albanian pronunciation:; Gheg Albanian: Tirona) is the capital and largest city of Albania.It is located in the centre of the country, enclosed by mountains and hills, with Dajti rising to the east and a slight valley to the northwest overlooking the Adriatic Sea in the distance.
The city plan for Tirana was initially designed by Armando Brasini in 1925 and continued by Florestano Di Fausto in a Neo-Renaissance style with articulate angular solutions and giant order fascias. Following the Italian invasion of Albania the master plan was updated in 1939 by Gherardo Bosio.
Bajram Curri Boulevard is a major boulevard of Tirana, Albania. It runs in a west–east direction and crosses the city centre south of the central Skanderbeg Square. At Rinia Park it intersects with Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard just south of the square. Towards the east it branches off into Ali Demi Street.
In 2003, the city of Tirana, headed by then-mayor Edi Rama, had commissioned a masterplan for the redevelopment of the city center.Drafted by Architecture-Studio, the plan envisioned the construction of ten towers, arranged in parallel order around Skanderbeg Square, with an intended maximum height of 85 meters for each tower, so to maintain a cohesive skyline.
Tirana is the capital and the largest city of Albania. Modern Tirana was founded as an Ottoman town in 1614 by Sulejman Bargjini, a local ruler from Mullet, although the area has been continuously inhabited since antiquity. Tirana became Albania's capital city in 1920 and has a population of over 600,000.
Rinia Park's main landmark is a white, terraced building on its western edge, which houses cafés, restaurants, the Regency Casino (one of only a few legally operating in Tirana), fountains, and a bowling lane in the basement, and which, because of its peculiar architecture, has been likened to a typical James Bond film villain's den or described as spider-shaped.
