The International Map of the World (IMW), also known as the Millionth Map of the World, [1] after its scale of 1:1 000 000, was a project to create a complete map of the world according to internationally agreed standards. [7] Roads were depicted in red, towns and railways were depicted in black, and the labels were written in the Roman ...
The true instigator of the 1:350 scale ship series was the British kit company Frog (models), which was started in 1932 by Joe Mansour and brothers Charles and John Wilmot. The first four years FROG focused on flying scale models, but in December 1936 they released the first three all-plastic kits, in a range called Penguin.
A world map is a map of most or all of the surface of Earth. World maps, because of their scale, must deal with the problem of projection. Maps rendered in two dimensions by necessity distort the display of the three-dimensional surface of the Earth. While this is true of any map, these distortions reach extremes in a world map.

1:350: 0.871 mm: Ship models: Though assumed to be a Japanese size for ship models, its origin lies in the UK, with the release of the 1:350 Javelin and Tribal Destroyer kit in December 1945 in the FROG Penguin range. These are typically full-hull models that are substantially more detailed than 1:700 waterline models. 1:300: 1.016 mm ...
A noted exception is the quadrangle series of the United States in 1:24,000 scale. A high-profile has been gained worldwide by map series published as a collaborative effort by several countries, especially the International Map of the World (1:1,000,000) (IMW) and the World Map / Karta Mira (1:2.500,000). The IMW was developed from 1913.
A graphical or bar scale. A map would also usually give its scale numerically ("1:50,000", for instance, means that one cm on the map represents 50,000cm of real space, which is 500 meters) A bar scale with the nominal scale expressed as "1:600 000", meaning 1 cm on the map corresponds to 600,000 cm=6 km on the ground.
