I updated Avast free on both my wife’s computer and mine a couple of days ago to: “Release date was December 9, 2020 12:25 AM (ver. 20.10.2442 - build 20.10.5824.618)” Her update went fine, but Avast installed its own browser and other stuff on mine: like when I opened Outlook to check email it said it was no long my default email client.
click the very large Download button. click Save. Click Open folder. Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator. Once open click the Install button. Then click on Finish. Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme.

But there is no reason to make a thread about it. Just go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall Google Chrome.
I tried his method but at the beginning it didn't work. So I have done several times (about 8 times) the following method: paste the link from @Jeff308, install the extension then close the browser. Go to Avast-> Confidentiality-> Password-> setting-> server integration then click on Add extension.

Just installed latest version on Vista and it installed Google chrome by default without giving me an option to prevent the installation. As far as I am concerned Avast is installing Malware.
Re: Avast 7 free addition is stopping Google Chrome Browser from working at all. I'm using the paid version and the same thing happened with Chrome. I had it sandboxed, just to see how that worked through Avast. Removed the sandbox and Chrome stopped loading webpages, wouldn't even load the settings page.

After I calmed down, I un-installed Chrome, downloaded and installed it properly and then did a "Restore previous versions" on the Chrome directory in Appdata\Local\Google.
