Alfred Wallis (18 August 1855 – 29 August 1942) was a British artist and fisherman, known for his port landscapes and shipping scenes painted in a naïve style.Having no artistic training, he began painting at the age of 70, using household paint on scraps of cardboard. [1]

The famous art colony of St. Ives lies on the Cornish Peninsula in Southwestern England and Dougherty worked there extensively. While J. M. W. Turner (1775–1851) did a pencil sketch of St. Ives as early as 1811, it wasn't until the completion of a rail line to Penzance in 1859, that artists began to frequent the area and paint its dramatic views.
His auction record is £131,000 for his painting In the Streams Path (1958), set at Sotheby's on 11 November 2016. [2] The work had been acquired by the pop star David Bowie in 1995 at the sale of the collection of Sir John Moores. In 2001 he was the subject of Bryan Wynter: A Selected Retrospective at Tate St Ives. [3]
[9] [2] [11] After two weeks in St Ives, Barns-Graham acquired her first studio, directly below the Porthmeor Gallery which was the administrative headquarters of the St Ives Society of Artists. [10] Her paintings at the time were heavily influenced by the Cornish landscapes and the St Ives harbour.
David Haughton (1924–1991) was a British artist associated with the St Ives movement. Many of his paintings, etchings and drawings feature aspects of the Cornish landscape, particularly the area around St Just. [1]
