There is also a natural ski hill by Lake Superior at Porcupine Mountains State Park, less than an hour from Ironwood. The Copper Peak Ski flying hill is located near Ironwood, Michigan. This facility is the only ski flying hill in the western hemisphere, and hosted 10 ski flying events between 1970 and 1994.
There are 30 miles (48 km) of cross-county ski/hiking trails, 12 miles (19 km) of mountain biking trails and 9 miles (14 km) of equestrian trails. 6 miles (9.7 km) of the North Country Trail pass through the park. 30 miles (48 km) or more of seasonal two lane roads open to any road legal vehicles and is a popular destination for Enduro Riders.
The park is 723 acres (2.93 km 2) in area and has 214 camping sites distributed across a "north" and "south" campground, and one cabin. The north campground has larger lots which can accommodate larger trailers than the south campground. There is a six-mile (10 km) nature trail, as
Crooked Lake Campground is also a rustic campsite with 12 camping areas. Additionally, one yurt and one cabin are available to rent at the park. Silver Lake is a center of park activities with swimming beach on the lake as well as access to a number of trails including the 17-mile (27 km) Potawatomi mountain bike trail.
