The Camp on Pawnee Fork was established on October 22, 1859, to protect traffic along the Santa Fe Trail from hostile Native Americans. [3] It was renamed Camp Alert in 1860, as the small garrison of about 50 men had to remain constantly alert for Indians.

Hodgeman County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kansas. Its county seat and most populous city is Jetmore. [3] As of the 2020 census, the county population was 1,723. [1] It was named for Amos Hodgman, a member of the 7th Regiment Kansas Volunteer Cavalry.
The Hodgeman County High School mascot is the Longhorns. Prior to school unification, the Hanston High School mascot was Hanston Elks.
