[23] In 2004, the Second Division was re-branded as Football League One, [24] before the League's adoption of English Football League (EFL) led to a 2016 renaming as the EFL League One. [25]
In the late 1960s, the winners of the competition were granted automatic qualification to the UEFA Cup. [3] With the promise of potential European football, First Division clubs entered the competition, and all 92 Football League clubs entered the League Cup for the first time in 1969–70.
