The Shark Alliance was a global not-for-profit coalition founded in 2006 by Pew Charitable Trusts [1] of non-governmental organizations dedicated to restoring and conserving shark populations by improving shark conservation policies. As of May 2010 the Shark Alliance consisted of 85 NGOs from over 35 countries. [2]
The Alliance was formed in 2012 and campaigned to bring New Zealand shark laws in line with other countries. The alliance holds the view that, if the fishing industry is going to catch sharks, that sharks should be fished sustainably.
