Janet Norton Lee Auchincloss, previously Bouvier, (December 3, 1907 – July 22, 1989) [1] was an American socialite. She was the mother of the former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and Lee Radziwill .
Janet Lee Bouvier, Jacqueline's mother, hired Lowe to design and make the entire bridal party's outfits. Lowe had made Bouvier's dress for her wedding to Hugh Auchincloss. The bridal gown, of ivory-colored silk taffeta, featured a portrait neckline and huge round skirt. The skirt featured interwoven tucking bands and tiny wax flowers. [6]
Lowe was chosen by the bride’s mother, Janet Auchincloss, with whom she had a long-standing relationship. When Janet Auchincloss married Hugh Auchincloss in 1942, Lowe created her wedding gown.
The main house remained in the Auchincloss family until the 1976 death of Hugh Auchincloss. Janet Lee Auchincloss (1907–1989), Jacqueline Kennedy's mother, sold the main house and moved into one of the guesthouses on the farm, called "The Castle". There was another guest house on the farm built to resemble a windmill.
