News is information about current events. This may be provided through many different media: word of mouth, printing, postal systems, broadcasting, electronic communication, or through the testimony of observers and witnesses to events. News is sometimes called "hard news" to differentiate it from soft media.
Types of news articles include: Breaking news, a quick, tentative update about an event that is happening right now; News reports, e.g., a local news report about plans for a new school, or a world news report about a natural disaster; Feature story, longer, more creatively written articles that include both human-interest stories and news features
The title may simply be the name (or a name) of the subject of the article, or, if the article topic has no name, it may be a description of the topic. Because no two articles can have the same title, [c] it is sometimes necessary to add distinguishing information, often in the form of a description in parentheses after the name.
Some news outlets insist that anonymous sources are the only way to obtain certain information, while others prohibit the use of unnamed sources at all times. [5] News organizations may impose safeguards, such as requiring that information from an anonymous source be corroborated by a second source before it can be printed.
A title should be a recognizable name or description of the topic, balancing the criteria of being natural, sufficiently precise, concise, and consistent with those of related articles. For formatting guidance see the Wikipedia:Article titles § Article title format section, noting the following:
An editorial, or leading article (UK) or leader (UK), is an article or any other written document, often unsigned, written by the senior editorial people or publisher of a newspaper or magazine, that expresses the author(s)'s opinion about a particular topic or issue.
Press releases are typically delivered to news media electronically, ready to use, and often subject to "do not use before" time, known as a news embargo. A special example of a press release is a communiqué [ 1 ] ( / k ə ˈ m juː n ɪ k eɪ / ; French: [kɔmynike] ), which is a brief report or statement released by a public agency.
News style, journalistic style, or news-writing style is the prose style used for news reporting in media, such as newspapers, radio and television.. News writing attempts to answer all the basic questions about any particular event—who, what, when, where, and why (the Five Ws) and also often how—at the opening of the article.
