Phaya Thai opened as a halt on 24 January 1907 on the Eastern Line between Bangkok (Hua Lamphong) and Chachoengsao Junction, operated by the State Railway of Thailand.In recent years, the halt has been criticised for neglect and poor maintenance by the SRT as the tracks are being handed over for construction of the Don Mueang–Suvarnabhumi–U-Tapao high-speed railway.
The line provides an airport rail link from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phaya Thai station in central Bangkok. Most of the line is on a viaduct over the main eastern railway. It is owned by State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and, since 2021, operated by Asia Era One Company Limited . [ 1 ]

The line runs from Siam Station, where it interchanges with the Silom Line, and continues both northwards along Phaya Thai and Phahon Yothin Roads to Khu Khot in Lam Luk Ka District, Pathum Thani, and eastwards along Rama I, Phloen Chit and Sukhumvit Roads, through Bang Na District to Kheha Station in Samut Prakan.
