The Grumman F8F Bearcat is an American single-engined, carrier-based fighter aircraft introduced in late World War II.It served during the mid-20th century in the United States Navy, the United States Marine Corps, and the air forces of other nations.
Rare Bear has set many performance records for piston-driven aircraft, including the 3 km World Speed Record of 528.33 mph (850.26 km/h) set August 21, 1989, which still stands in this class, and a new time-to-climb record (3,000 meters in 91.9 seconds set in 1972 (9842.4 ft – 6,426 fpm), breaking a 1946 record set in a stock Bearcat.
On August 16, 1969, flying the highly modified Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat "Conquest I" (N1111L), Greenamyer broke the 30-year-old FAI Class C-1 Group I 3 km speed record with a speed of 777.38 kilometres per hour (483.04 mph).
On 15 November 1946, VBF-3 was redesignated VF-4A and switched to the F8F-1 Bearcat. On 7 August 1948, VF-4A became VF-32 and switched to the F4U Corsair. [2]
Description: A U.S. Navy Grumman F8F-2P Bearcat of Composite Squadron 62 (VC-62) Det.5 "Fighting Photos" flies over the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CVB-41). VC-62 Det.5 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 6 (CVG-6) aboard the Midway for a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 9 January to 5 May 1952.

VFP-62 was established in January 1949 as Composite Squadron SIX TWO (VC-62), nicknamed the Fighting Photos, and was equipped with Grumman F8F-2P Bearcat and Vought F4U-5P Corsair fighter aircraft converted to reconnaissance platforms.
Ed Shipley is the founder of the group and is a long-time air show performer with more than 18 years of experience flying the T-6 Texan, P-51 Mustang, the F8F Bearcat and the F-86 Sabre.
