The Treaty of the Cedars was an 1836 agreement between the Menominee Indian nation and the United States in which the Menominee ceded to the United States about 4,000,000 acres (16,000 km 2) of land for $700,000. The agreement opened that huge tract of forest to logging and White settlement.
