Plainfield is an unincorporated community in St. Joseph County, Indiana, United States. It is along U.S. Route 20 in the north-central part of Olive Township and is bordered to the south and west by the town of New Carlisle. Via US-20, Plainfield is 13 miles (21 km) west of South Bend and 23 miles (37 km) east of Michigan City.

Indiana State Road 267 formerly crossed US-36 in the center of Avon, leading north 5 miles (8 km) to Brownsburg and south 4 miles (6 km) to Plainfield, but that stretch of 267 was decommissioned in 2013, and the section through Avon is now officially called Avon Avenue.

In early 2017, INDOT gave the route between SR 42 and Center Street to Hendricks County. On April 1, 2021, the remaining section south of US 40 was given over to the town of Plainfield, as well as Hendricks County, leaving SR 267 to only run between I-74 and I-65.
