The Balmoral Hotel in an early postcard. Resulting from a competition in 1895, the hotel was designed by William Hamilton Beattie for the North British Railway Company as a railway hotel adjacent to their newly rebuilt Waverley station. [1]
The old Waverley Market occupied the same site as the current shopping centre. The location is in the city centre, on a plot bordered by Waverley Bridge , Princes Street , the Balmoral Hotel and Edinburgh Waverley railway station .
