Alexis Martínez (27 February 1980 – 24 December 2009) was a Spanish animal trainer, notable as the victim of a fatal attack by an orca (killer whale). He was killed by a SeaWorld-owned orca, Keto, held at Loro Parque's Orca Ocean in the Canary Islands. [1] [2]
On December 24, 2009, two months before Brancheau's death, another SeaWorld-owned orca, Keto, killed trainer Alexis Martínez at Loro Parque in the Canary Islands. On March 4, 1987, 20-year-old SeaWorld San Diego trainer, Jonathan Smith, was grabbed by one of the park’s six-ton killer whales. The orca dragged the trainer to the very bottom of the tank, hurting him, then carried him bleeding all the way back to the surface, and then spat him out.
