I've been using D'Addario 9.5-44 for the last 9 months and they've been my preferred gauge ever since. I like the compromise between the ease of playing you get with the 9s and the tone and more stable feeling of 10s.
The one thing I have changed is substituting a plain 15ga G string for the 16ga one that comes with the 9-42 set. The standard G string in most sets always seems too loud and strident compared to the other five strings.
I tend to like heavier strings, .011-.052. But that instrument sounds better balanced with lighter strings. I never much cottoned to .009s myself. Not enough tension to push and pull against.
“I play in drop C – what’s the best string gauge so I don’t have a floppy low string? “I have an 8 string with a 24.75″ – 29″ fan – what kind of strings should I get if I want balanced tension?”

Almost every Telecaster in the Squier line(including the Classic Vibe series, Bullet, and Affinity) uses nickel-plated steel strings with a .009-.042 gauge. The American Acoustasonic series uses Fender Coated Phosphor Bronze Dura-Tone strings in the heavier .011-.052 gauge.
In this KillerGuitarRigs Guide, part of our electric guitar strings series, we took a look at 5 of the best string sets for Telecasters on the market today. To fairly review each string set, we played them clean through a Bugera V22 Infinium tube amp on a Squier Classic Vibe ’50s Telecaster.
What kind of strings/string gauge do you guys like on your Teles? Recently moved up from 9's to 10's, and my fingers are still adjusting. The action is a little bit higher than I'm used to but I'm honestly too scared to mess with my truss rod so I'm dealing with it. What strings sound best for you folks? This thread is archived.
