Value City Department Stores was an American department store chain with 113 locations. It was founded in 1917 by Ephraim Schottenstein, a travelling salesman in central Ohio . The store was an off-price retailer that sold clothing, jewelry, and home goods below the manufacturer suggested retail price .
In October 2008, Value City declared bankruptcy and announced they would close all stores by early 2009. [3] The Value City became a P. C. Richard & Son , which opened on November 11, 2011. A Sports Authority opened on August 11, 2012, in the same building as the P. C. Richard & Son, along with a Bonefish Grill on January 27, 2014. [ 4 ]
In 2008, the Value City store at Shore Mall was among 24 locations sold by Value City's parent company to Burlington Coat Factory. The store closed on September 21, 2008 and remained vacant until it was occupied temporarily by The Community Food Bank of New Jersey in 2011-2012 while their permanent location was torn down and reconstructed.

The store was converted to Value City in 1997 and later closed and demolished in the mid-2000s. In the early 1990s the mall was repositioned as a value-oriented center that included a Marshalls, Gap Outlet, and a Saks Off 5th outlet. Across the street from the main mall is a little strip mall that was part of the mall property.
The mall also had room for about 150 stores and two extra anchors. The mall was developed by The Goodman Company [6] and opened on November 2, 1977. At this point, the mall was about 40% occupied. Steinbach operated its Seaview Square store as an upscale, fashion-oriented store, and their Asbury Park store more towards housewares and furniture.
