Kirklees Stadium, currently known as the John Smith's Stadium for sponsorship reasons, [4] [5] [6] is a multi-purpose stadium in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. Since 1994, it has been the home ground of Huddersfield Town Association Football Club and Huddersfield Giants Rugby League Football Club , both of whom moved from Leeds Road .
Huddersfield Town played their final match at Leeds Road on 30 April 1994, beating Blackpool 2–1, which was watched by a near capacity crowd of 16,195. [52] They moved into the new Kirklees Stadium (then named as the Alfred McAlpine Stadium) for the 1994–95 season. [ 53 ]
On 2 June, Huddersfield Town announced their first pre-season friendly, against Stockport County. [47] Four further friendlies were later added, against Bodmin Town , Tavistock , Liskeard Athletic and Heerenveen .

The stadium is home to Huddersfield Giants and Huddersfield Town football team. Adjacent the stadium is an Odeon cinema (formerly UCI). There are many pubs, restaurants and night clubs, one of which, Tokyo, which closed in 2019, occupies the former Huddersfield County Court, a 19th-century Grade II listed building.
