South Brooklyn is a historic term [1] [2] for a section of the former City of Brooklyn – now the New York City borough of Brooklyn – encompassing what are now the Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Gowanus, Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Sunset Park and Red Hook neighborhoods.
Park Slope Village is a housing development in the northwestern section of Park Slope, Brooklyn, bordering Gowanus to the west. It was developed by the Fifth Avenue Committee, [2] and built by the Urban Housing Association [1] as part of a 1982 urban renewal project. [3] Construction of the 55 three-unit townhouses [4] was completed in 1986. [5]
It is delimited by Upper New York Bay and East River on the west, Atlantic Avenue, Court Street, Fourth Avenue, Warren and Pacific Streets on the north, Prospect Park on the east, as well as by the 15th Street, Hamilton Avenue and the Gowanus Canal on the south. It approximates the 19th century district of South Brooklyn.
All of Prospect Park is included in this district. [ 3 ] The district overlaps (partially) with New York's 7th , 9th and 10th congressional districts, the 17th , 20th , 21st , 22nd , 25th and 26th districts of the New York State Senate , and the 35th , 38th , 40th , 44th and 45th districts of the New York City Council .
