Subiaco is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Italian region of Latium, 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Tivoli alongside the River Aniene. It is a tourist and religious resort because of its sacred grotto ( Sacro Speco ), in the medieval St. Benedict's Abbey [ it ] , and its Abbey of Santa Scolastica .

They called their monastery New Subiaco after the birthplace of the Benedictine Order – Subiaco, Italy. [2] In 1881, the name Subiaco was adopted for a railway station near the monastery, and later for the cluster of houses and businesses that became the present Subiaco. [2] The Subiaco Progress Association was established in 1896.
