Qatar Steel Company FZE [18] was established in August 2003 to produce steel wire-rod products. The company operates two primary facilities at its 60,000 Sq. meter Jebel Ali Free Zone site. The facilities have a yearly production capacity of 280,000 tonnes of wire rods and 300,000 tons of bars.
All these industries use gas for fuel. Most are joint ventures between European and Japanese firms and the state-owned QatarEnergy corporation (formerly QGPC). The U.S. is the major equipment supplier for Qatar's oil and gas industry, and U.S. companies are playing a major role in North Field gas development.
