Samburu National Reserve is a game reserve on the banks of the Ewaso Ng'iro river in Kenya. It is 165 km 2 (64 sq mi) in size and is 350 km (220 mi) from Nairobi . It ranges in elevation from 800 to 1,230 m (2,620 to 4,040 ft). [ 1 ]
The reserve was established in 1948 as part of the Samburu - Isiolo Game Reserve and the present boundaries were established in 1985. The reserve is managed by the Isiolo County Council. Most operators of Kenyan safaris offer a visit to the reserve, which has several safari lodges and safari camps. [1]
It is just east of Samburu and 70 km (43 mi) to the north of Mount Kenya. [1] The Ewaso Ngiro river runs for 34 km (21 mi) along the northern boundary of the reserve. [3] Annual rainfall is between 250 mm (9.8 in) and 500 mm (20 in). The soils are sandy and of volcanic origin. [3]

Samburu District was a district in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. It covered an area of roughly 21,000 km 2 (8,000 mi 2 ) in northern Kenya where the Samburu tribe live. The district had a population of 143,547 in the 1999 census. [ 1 ]

Wamba is a small town in Samburu County in central Kenya. It is located south-southwest edge of the Mathews Range , and northwest of the Samburu National Reserve . The northbound Isiolo - Moyale road (A2 road) is about 40 kilometres drives east of Wamba.
