McGee Creek State Park is a state park in southern Oklahoma. The park is on the south side of McGee Creek Reservoir, which impounds the waters of McGee Creek. Created in 1985 the reservoir provides flood control. The park is approximately 2,600 acres (1,100 ha) and the reservoir is approximately 3,800 acres (1,500 ha).
The state park is used for camping, horse camping, and canoeing. [4] The Rough Riders was a nickname given to the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry when it was led by Theodore Roosevelt . His presidential library is under construction nearby as Roosevelt hunted and ranched in the area in the 1880s.
Camp Creek State Park was created in 1987 by dividing the 550-acre (220 ha) area from Camp Creek State Forest. Horse Creek branches into distributaries as it nears the river. The named ones are East Fork Horse Creek and West Fork Horse Creek. Two additional named tributaries, Taylor and Drury creeks, enter the West Fork before it meets the river. [4] Horse Creek Campground along the creek's lower reaches has room for up to 60 campers and 23 vehicles.
