Ghantasala Venkateswararao (4 December 1922 – 11 February 1974), known mononymously by his surname as Ghantasala, was an Indian playback singer and film composer known for his works predominantly in Telugu and Kannada cinema and also in Tamil, Malayalam, Tulu and Hindi language films.
Ghantasala is a village in Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is 21 km west of Machilipatnam and 11 km east of Krishna River. The largest city of this district, Vijayawada, is around 60 km away. It is a rare and reputed center for Buddhist sculptures. Kaṇṭakasola was the ancient name of Ghantasala.
Ghantasala mandal plays a major role in education for rural students of nearby villages. Primary and secondary school education is imparted by government, aided by private schools under the School Education Department. [8] For the academic year 2015–16, the mandal had more than 2,489 students enrolled in over 56 schools. [9] [10]
