KTU was established by the Government of Kerala through an Ordinance on 21 May 2014. [7] Kuncheria P. Isaac, a former Member Secretary of the All India Council for Technical Education, was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the university on 1 September 2014, and M. Government Engineering College, Barton Hill (GEC-BH) is a public engineering college situated in Barton Hill, Thiruvananthapuram, India.Founded in 1999 by the Government of Kerala, it provides engineering programmes under the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, accredited to the National Board of Accreditation.
There was a proposal to convert CET to a Centre of Excellence, upgrading it to 'Kerala Institute of Technology (KIT)', so that a technical university can grow around it, [5] but the plan was later dropped to form a new separate single university for all engineering colleges in the state, named KTU.
