Clarithromycin, sold under the brand name Biaxin among others, is an antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. [3] This includes strep throat, pneumonia, skin infections, H. pylori infection, and Lyme disease, among others. [3] Clarithromycin can be taken by mouth as a tablet or liquid or can be infused intravenously. [3]
During active phagocytosis, large concentrations of telithromycin is released. The concentration of telithromycin in the tissues is much higher than in plasma. Telithromycin fulfills a role that has arisen due to the rise of microbial resistance to existing macrolides and appears to be effective against macrolide-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Roxithromycin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic. It is used to treat respiratory tract, urinary and soft tissue infections. Roxithromycin is derived from erythromycin, containing the same 14-membered lactone ring. but with an N-oxime side chain attached to the ring. Roxithromycin was patented in 1980 and approved for medical use in 1987. [1]

Patients who have low CYP3A activity and are also concurrently taking other medications such as disopyramide, which can lead to QT prolongation and TdP.
