The school first began in 1908. [2]Jeré Longman of The New York Times wrote that the facilities began to deteriorate after racial integration occurred in 1969. By 2008, the school received upgrades to its computer laboratory and library and a new metal roof, along with other items within $2.4 million with of repairs and improvements.
Born in Ville Platte in Evangeline Parish in south Louisiana, Thompson attended public schools there. From 1932 to 1934, he completed a two-year course in higher accounting at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. From 1934 to 1940, Thompson was the traveling auditor for the Louisiana Highway Commission.
The Louisiana State Arboretum 600 acres (240 ha), is an arboretum located on Louisiana Highway 3042, approximately 13 km (eight miles) north of Ville Platte, Louisiana inside of Chicot State Park, United States, and bordering a branch of Lake Chicot. Established in 1961, it is the oldest state-supported arboretum in the United States.
