The UEFA Europa League, formerly the UEFA Cup, is an association football competition established in 1971 by UEFA. [1] It is considered the second most important international competition for European clubs, after the UEFA Champions League. Clubs qualify for the Europa League based on their performance in national leagues and cup competitions.
The 2023–24 UEFA Europa League knockout phase began on 15 February with the knockout round play-offs and ended on 22 May 2024 with the final at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, to decide the champions of the 2023–24 UEFA Europa League. [1] A total of 24 teams competed in the knockout phase. [2]
The 32 teams were drawn into eight groups of four. For the draw, the teams were seeded into four pots each of eight teams, based on their club coefficients. As the winners of the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League, West Ham United entered Pot 1 regardless of their club coefficient (CC). [13]
