Riceville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in McMinn County, Tennessee, United States. It is located some 60 miles southwest of Knoxville, and midway between Knoxville and Chattanooga, and in closer proximity, between Athens and Calhoun. [4] Its population was 688 as of the 2020 census. [5]

McMinn County was created in 1819 from Indian lands and was named in honor of Joseph McMinn (1758–1824). [1] McMinn was a militia commander during the Revolutionary War, a member of the territorial legislature, speaker of the state senate, and eventually governor of the state of Tennessee.
Athens is the county seat of McMinn County, Tennessee, United States [8] and the principal city of the Athens Micropolitan Statistical Area has a population of 53,569. The city is located almost equidistantly between the major cities of Knoxville and Chattanooga. [9]
