Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC is an American professional soccer team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded and beginning play in 1999, [ 7 ] [ 8 ] the club plays in the Eastern Conference of the USL Championship , the second tier of the American soccer pyramid. [ 9 ]
The Riverhounds were founded by Paul Heasley, chief executive of Pittsburgh-based Alliance International Ltd., a merchant banking and investment firm, in 1998 as a member of the USL A-League. [5] Pittsburgh was awarded the then-unnamed club on March 11, 1998, with the announcement coming from then USISL commissioner Francisco Marcos.

John Kowalski (born December 22, 1951, in Miłków, Poland) is a former coach of the professional United States soccer clubs Tampa Bay Mutiny (Major League Soccer), Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Pittsburgh Spirit . He also briefly managed the United States national team in 1991, compiling a 2–0–1 record.

After studying business at Duquesne University, Gibson turned professional with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the USL Second Division in 2008, making his professional debut on 7 June 2008 in a 5–3 away defeat to the Wilmington Hammerheads.
