Following the opening of the Alton Towers Hotel in 1996, plans were developed for a second hotel, including a water park. Originally named S plash Landings , the name of the water park changed to Cariba Creek when the hotel was forced to drop the Calypso Springs name early in 2003.

The 12 barrels are able to hold up to 5 adults each, allowing for 60 guests per cycle, however this may be increased to 6 riders per barrel as long as some of the guests are children.

Alton Towers said that the smoke was caused by a foreign object that was on the track and not the ride itself, the ride was then closed for maintenance "until further notice". [18]
