The Maddox recording of the Crazy Otto Medley entered the Billboard charts on February 5, 1955, and spent 20 weeks, peaking at #2 for seven weeks. It also became the first million-selling ragtime record in the United States since Del Wood 's " Down Yonder " in 1951, and eventually sold in excess of two million copies.

[5] Maddox began collecting antique sheet music, 78s, cylinders, piano rolls, photographs, and more at a very young age.
Johnston was born August 18, 1914, in Admire, Kansas, to farmers Alva and Ella Johnston. He had his first airplane ride in 1925, at 11 years old, when a barnstormer landed near his family farm. At the age of 15, Johnston used his newspaper route money to purchase a wrecked Cessna glider. [ 1 ]

William J. Maddox Jr (May 22, 1921 – January 5, 2001) was a United States Army Aviator and a major general in the United States Army. During his career he amassed over 10,500 flying hours, almost 4,000 of those in combat over Korea , Vietnam and Cambodia .
The two soon became friends, and Murphy began to tell the story many times later. [1] Murphy was also friends with Henry Thrale and Hester Thrale, and spent time with all three. [2] After Johnson died and John Hawkins published his Life of Samuel Johnson, Arthur Murphy began to attack the work. [3]
