Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festival is a music festival in Ann Arbor, Michigan, that started in 1972 from the Ann Arbor Blues Festival, [1] which itself began in 1969. Although the festival has had a tumultuous history and suspended operations in 2006, it was restarted in 2017.
In 2012, Silk City Records released Someday which featured live and studio performances from 1967 produced by the noted blues guitarist Son Lewis. DVD recordings of Spann include his performances at the Newport Jazz Festival (1960), the American Folk Blues Festival (1963), the Blues Masters (1966), and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival (1968).
Ann Arbor also has a number of concert halls and nightclubs serving up jazz and other live music: Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase; The Ark - Ann Arbor's folk and acoustic music venue. The Blind Pig - A small venue for rock, hip hop, and electronic music. It is known for early performances by Dave Matthews Band, Verve Pipe, and Nirvana, among others.
