She was born with a black face and white body, a distinctive coloring compared to the black cows around her. When Rosa was one year old, she was spotted by Jean-Pierre Labat, who was on a visit for breeding cattle. She joined the breeding herd in France owned by the Labat family, [2] who had previously provided cows for use in Intervilles. [1]
The Buelingo derives from a small herd of fourteen cows of mostly Shorthorn type owned by Russ Bueling in the early 1970s. A dairy-type Dutch Belted bull was used on these to introduce the gene for belting (this was purely for appearance), [1]: 68 and then a Chianina bull was used to increase size and improve beef qualities.

Brindle is a coat coloring pattern in animals, particularly dogs, cattle, guinea pigs, cats, and, rarely, horses. It is sometimes described as "tiger-striped", although the brindle pattern is more subtle than that of a tiger's coat. Brindle typically appears as black stripes on a red base.

The Droimeann cow (Irish pronunciation: [ˈd̪ˠɾˠɪmʲən̪ˠ], literally "white-backed") is an endangered breed of cattle unique to Ireland. [1] It was officially recognised as a rare native breed on 8 January 2020 following DNA profiling which showed that it was genetically distinct from other breeds. [2]
