Izuku is first seen in My Hero Academia as a 4-year-old boy about to be beaten up by three other classmates, one of them being Katsuki "Kacchan" Bakugo, who has the ability to create explosions. Izuku was born without any unique superpower, or "Quirk", to call his own unlike his parents and 80% of the world's population.

Izuku Midoriya, the current wielder of One for All, meets Mahoro Shimano and her younger brother Katsuma, residents of the island. Accepting Midoriya and Bakugo as his students, Endeavor first seeks to understand what each has to work on. Izuku hopes to master all of his other Quirks, and Bakugo desires to know what he is missing besides strength. Todoroki interjects, intending to learn everything he can from Endeavor, to become someone like All Might.
