Belmont University is a private Christian university in Nashville, Tennessee. Descended from Belmont Women's College, founded in 1890 by schoolteachers Ida Hood and Susan Heron, the institution was incorporated in 1951 as Belmont College. [1] With expansion of programs, it became Belmont University in 1991.
Belmont is also home to a large population of students at Fordham University who reside in the university's off-campus housing [20] and in private apartment buildings. [19] Based on data from the 2010 United States Census, the population of Belmont was 27,378, an increase of 1,411 (5.4%) from the 25,967 counted in 2000.
The college resides in a 60,000-square-foot (5,600 m 2) facility in the MetroCenter area of north Nashville and offers on-campus housing. It was established in 1885. In 2020, the college merged with Belmont University. Main entrance to Watkins College
The Belmont University Tower and Carillon is located approximately 528 ft (161 m) south of the Belmont Mansion on Belmont University's campus in Nashville, Tennessee. Located on the former summer estate of Colonel Joseph and Adelicia Acklen , the tower was constructed circa 1850 to be used as a water tower for the Belmont Mansion and gardens.
In February 2018, it merged with Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee to become the O'More School of Design at Belmont University. [1] Abbey Leix Mansion, also known as the Winstead House, formerly the administration building for the O'More College of Design.
